We all wait for it. That look of jubilation when we give someone the perfect gift. The look of surprise and joy on their face as they take it all in. The squeal of delight. . . Okay, okay, so maybe it doesn’t always quite work out like that! Really, the true joy comes in giving more than receiving, anyway!
Have you ever thought about giving the gift of health? It may not bring that moment of complete happiness and jubilation. But what might it bring beyond that? Better health? Better quality of life? More energy? More connections with others? We’ve all heard of the gift that keeps on giving. Giving the gift of Health is a gift that will carry on through the entire year and possibly a lifetime.
When we give a gift, we want it to come from the heart. I can’t think of a better way to show someone we care about them than to give a gift that will encourage and promote good health.
When we give the gift of health, we inspire others to want to take care of their health. Here are some ideas of gifts that will go beyond just a wrapped up package:
1) Cook a healthy meal for someone or take a healthy cooking class together. Sitting down to a balanced meal together can create great conversation and memories. Some of our best family conversations are around the dinner table. We laugh, we contemplate, we catch up, we reminisce. Now that my kids have grown and gone, our best times when they come home to visit are around a meal. So, I have an even bigger table so they can bring their friends or significant others and we can continue this tradition.
2.) Go to a fitness or yoga class with someone. As a yoga instructor, I see many couples who come to class together. This makes that first class less intimidating. Not to mention, if you have someone there with you, there is a sense of bonding when you do something like a fitness class together. Plus, the laughter is always good for endorphins and overall good feelings. Give a gift certificate for a massage. This one is pretty self-explanatory. Reminding someone they need to take care of themselves is always good advice.
3) Give knowledge – knowing how to care for our health is one of the most important keys to good health. Give a subscription to a blog with the latest information on healthy choices. You could even sign them up to receive info from my blog. https://www.simplestepstoahealthylife.com
4) Give your time – spending time with friends and family is invaluable. It can become even richer when we add a hike or a walk to it. Helping an older person with their grocery shopping will be time well spent. Spending time with your children playing a game or making and enjoying delicious, healthy treats will be time well spent.
For the gifts that are intangible, creating a coupon with the activity described on it is the perfect way to present the gift.
In the end, it does and will make our lives so much richer when we are thankful for our health, treat our health as a gift, and share that gift with others. Here’s to a Happy, Healthy Holiday!
